Durango School District 9-R is Southwest Colorado’s largest school district with about 5,000 students enrolled.
- Regular assessments demonstrate that Durango students consistently outperform students statewide on standardized tests in reading, writing, math, and science.
- Seven elementary schools teach children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
- Six of the seven schools offer a pre-school program.
- Three elementary schools are located within Durango city limits; the other four are located throughout western La Plata County.
- There are two middle schools in Durango, sixth through eighth grade.
