December is always a busy and celebratory month in Durango! All locals, part time residents, and tourists alike fill their calendars with some extra seasonal events during the holiday season.

So far this season, events like Noel Night and the State Street ballet of Santa Barbara’s “Nutcracker” have brought a holiday glow to town. With winter weather and plenty of Christmas spirit, there is certainly more to come.

Purgatory Resort opened the weekend before Thanksgiving, and we’re already headed towards a better, snowier winter than last year! Currently, 6 of the 12 lifts are open, and 27 out of 101 trails are open. Purg reports a 21 inch base depth! That makes the mountain 27% open before Christmas! Lift ticket prices at the ticket window are $69 per day for adults with discounted prices for kids, teens, and seniors.  Read More
