My Latest Experience Updating Home Furnishings
In Durango, we do have some amazing local businesses, and the furniture industry isn’t an exception. Urban Market, located right on Main, is always a favorite of locals and visitors alike. Everyone knows about their household items, novelty journals and bar ware, and seasonal decor on their first floor in the Main Street store. Their store focusing on furniture and larger items is now upstairs. It is filled with modern mountain decor that promotes quality and functionality.
Recently, I updated my dining room. Long time Durango interior designer, Jackie Gillespie, helped me through the process at Urban Market. Not everyone has the spacial awareness to anticipate how a large piece of furniture, like a dining room table, will affect a space. Jackie worked with me to make sure that I had my specific dining room in mind when selecting a table.
Urban Market contracts with an Amish company that makes beautiful tables and buffet pieces. I was even able to customize my buffet as I wanted a deeper drawer to store larger serving pieces. Choosing stain finishes and chair fabric was so much fun, and I appreciated the professional level of service and recommendations.
I was able to bring wood and fabric samples home and live with them. With this best practice recommendation, Urban Market helped me experience how the colors would work with my flooring, wall color, and other home furnishings; I got to experience life with potential finishes which definitely influenced my decisions. Plan ahead if you are coordinating for an event or holiday entertaining, as these items are custom made per order. This level of quality and customization can take time, but it is so worth it!
Additionally, we have some great resources in Durango for the furniture being replaced. ReLove is a wonderful resale furniture store right by the train station now. This great local business picked up my old dining room set and will sell it for me. ReLove helped take all the hassle out of updating my dining room furniture.
