2020 Local Shopping Holiday Gift Guide
The first snow of the season fell in Durango this past weekend. It created the perfect winter wonderland and cued up instant holiday spirit: hot cider, generosity, kindness and shopping!
With so many wonderful boutiques, locally-crafted artisan foods and galleries, Durango is a shopper’s dream. Especially given how tough this year has been for retailers, I encourage everyone to shop local for the holidays.
If you’re avoiding shopping in-store this season, remember that many businesses are offering curbside pick-up!
A few gift ideas for everyone on your list:
Sweet Tooth: Animas Chocolate & Coffee Company makes handcrafted, artisan chocolate, truffles, and a host of other treats. My favorites: Snowdon Peak and Snakebite truffles. Yum!
A Little Spicier: Check out Durango Artisan Foods for a collective of locally-made salsas, specialty mustards, jams and more. These delights will round out the pantry of anyone who likes to cook…or eat.
Smooth and Savory: Durango Olive Oil Company infuses premium olive oil with flavors you’d expect and flavors that delight. Must try: Rosemary olive oil.
A Little Kick: Kudos to the McCardell family for taking a leap into the world of craft spirits. It has paid off! Durango Craft Spirits is an award-winning grain-to-glass distillery. Cheers!
One of a Kind: Azul Gallery showcases home decor, art, blown glass, and other finds from local artists. What I can’t get enough of? The jewelry!
The Gift of Relaxation: The recent remodel of the Durango Hot Springs Resort + Spa does not disappoint. Spoil your loved ones with a stress-free afternoon of soaking.
Dining Gift Cards: Many restaurants are still open for take-out! What better way to support these businesses AND pamper your friends than with a gift certificate for a delicious meal (that they don’t need to cook).
I know this list is far from comprehensive, given all the fantastic opportunities we have locally. These are just a few of my favorite go-to boutiques for gifts (and to treat myself).
Happy holidays!
