In Durango, there are many older homes hitting the market. Design trends have shifted dramatically making homes with out of date trends more difficult to sell. Features like crown molding, heavy wood, dark finishes, and broken up floor plans can be a challenge for a seller. Currently, properties with clean lines and open floor plans are in demand and have low days on market.

I personally believe that it is crucial for sellers to make their home as updated as possible before listing. There is the school of thought that a buyer should update a home after purchase – “let the buyer make it their own.” In many cases though, buyers will pass up a home that requires a remodel project, and a home without updates can require below market pricing.
